Donald Trump Should Be Impeached
![]() |
Introduction
The president is abusing his power and needs to get impeached. Impeachment is one of the most important checks that the executive authority in the United States has. The framers of the Constitution design impeachment as part of the check and balances amendments, that's used to hold the president accountable for actions that threaten democracy norms, abuse their authority or endanger the public. While Impeachment is often viewed as a political tool, its purpose is deeply constitutional, designed to protect the nation and maintain public trust in government institutions. During his presidency, Donald Trump repeatedly undermined the administrative state, and promoted hatefulness to others, violated the constitution and engaged in actions that harmed the integrity of democratic governance. Evidence from scholastic articles and public data, documented policies outcomes demonstrates that Trump's actions deserve impeachment. Presidents are not above the law and the long-term health of American democracy requires holding the president accountable when their actions do not follow the constitutional boundaries just like any other branch, any other person, anyone is held accountable for their actions.

A point of argument for impeachment concerns Trump's systematic erosion of the administrative state. Scholar James E Wright II And Michael Blair Thomas, note that “public administration as a profession was eroded and damaged under the Trump presidency”(Wright, Thomas pp#1) and also there was “A clear attempt to Unravel the traditional Nation of the administrative State and increase diversion in the government”(Wright, Thomas pp#1) This is a problem because the administrative state exists to enforce laws, protect citizens and uphold democratic principles. When and if this important structure is weakened the government can lose its ability to function efficiently and equitably.
Another example of this erosion is Trump's Mass removal of the federal Administration in only his first year. According to Wright and Thomas he had “ Close to 3000 federal administrative pink slips”(pp#3) which significantly reversed staffing trends from the previous administration. and that weakened the institutional memory and disrupted the implementation of policies designed to protect vulnerable communities. On top of that weakened institution the administration left “170 out of 174 key political positions unfilled”(pp#3) which weakened the federal government capacity to respond to the crisis. By undermining political administration in this way Trump had efficiently weakened the system in two ways and many other times. He weakened a system that was made to protect americans which is a violation of the responsibility interested in the presidency and did it twice with no punishment.
Public Unrest
Trump's rhetoric also contributes to widespread unrest and societal harm. Wright And Thomas argue that Trump “empowered police officers to continue to use stop and frisk policies despite them being found unconstitutional and discriminatory”(pp#2). Then led to the encouragement of aggressive policing policies, mainly attacking latinos and black communities contributing to the increase in mistrust between citizens and law enforcement even more. Another example of this is “Trump labeling the covid-19 virus as the “Chinese virus” which made asian hate crimes increase 149% in 2020”(Wright, Thomas, pp#3). The last example of.
Trump has also attacked African-American athletes like LeBron James and Colin Kaepernick, which just feeds into that fostering divergent role Trump is making. For example he criticize Kaepernick for kneeling during the national anthem during the 2017 rally by saying “Get that son of a b**** off the field now, he's fired. He's fired!”(pp#4). This public attack Trump made towards Kaepernick is not just an opinion statement due to him disrespecting america but served as an racial statement that resulted in public unrest and protests. This reflects the president's nasty and racist behavior that promotes diversion and hostility among our community rather than unity and at peace.
Broken Amendments
Trump does not care to follow the Constitutional Amendments he swore oath to follow. In the Constitution Article 2 Section 1 Clause 8: it states “Before he shall take execution of his office, he shall take the following oath- “I do solemnly swear that I will Faithfully execute the office... protect and defend the constitution of the United States "(Coronell Law School). Furthermore the constitution and the judicial branch can “impeach and charge the president with violating his constitutional oath”(Coronell Law School). Trump used the alien enemies act to similarly deport people “Claiming it grants him authority to remove people without due process which appears to be both illegal and unconstitutional” (Ombres). The Fifth Amendment states “No person shall… be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself nor be deprived of life liberty or property without due process of law”(LII). Trump has deported immigrants but as he would say "aliens" without due process or even checking if they were a US citizens and sent them to camps, jails and different countries. CBS news states “This would make 13th deaths in its facilities” facilities referring to the detention centers immigrants are being held in where people are dying. And as a reply to the living conditions in these facilities Anna Maria Rodriguez Ramos an estate rep for Texas where one camps are located stated “We have received numerous credible reports of torture, killing and inhumane treatments of the detain individuals at the camp east Montana migrant detention Facility”. These American citizens that have been labeled “harmful criminals” from just wanting a better life and work and law following citizens have been taken against their will and sent away to these facilities to have their life and liberty taken away as they get locked away like criminals. While Trump is being allowed to break the fifth amendment and deprive many people of their life and liberty.
Trump has also deprived citizens of their birthright citizenship which breaks the 14th Amendment. Birthright citizenship has been established in our constitution for more than 150 years with the amendment stating “all persons born or naturalized in the United States… therefore are US citizens… no State shall make or Force any law which shall abridge the Privileges or immunity of citizens of the United States.”(Congress) Trump has violated the whole amendment when he is kidnapping US citizens and sending them away treating them like monsters. Because of their “criminal background" to Trump just the color of skin says more about a person then their actions because he believes in racial profiling. No race, no person should be treated unfairly and scared to get taken away from their family and sent away just because we have a racist monster of a president does not follow the law, amendments or has any compassion for others.
Counterargument
Supporters of Trump refer to his economic record as a reason he's a “good” president and should not be impeached. The White House archives describes an "unprecedented economic boom” Which includes gains of “ 7 million new jobs more than three times government experts projections”( The White House) and “unemployment rates reach 3.5%, the lowest in a half century.”(The White House) So we can see he has made income growth across all Metro areas and has reached historical low unemployment rate claims And other factors that contribute to the start of having a strong economy under Trump. Supporters argue that impeachment-based on misconduct could undermine the good benefits of the policies outcome and new growth and good economical growth that could be reached.
Rebuttal
While economical growth is an important factor to good presidency, it cannot excuse unconstitutional actions and threats made to the public and democratic institution. The erosion of the administrative state, the documented rise in hate crimes caused by Trump and the violation of the Constitution cannot be ignored due to a couple positive economic metrics. Impeachment is designed to protest the institution of government not to push or reward economic performance. Allowing these power abusing actions to go unaddressed risks setting a dangerous example showing that presidents may be held immune for violating democratic norms if they achieve little economic success. History shows that strong economics alone does not justify bypassing constitutional safeguards that are made to protect the citizens and democratic institutions by not allowing the presidents to abuse their power and laws.
Conclusion
Donald Trump's presidency shows exactly why impeachment exists as a constitutional safeguard. Evidence shows that his actions weaken democratic institutions, Field societal unrest, violence and racism. Wild supporters may point out the economical achievements as a defense that cannot outweigh threats to out rule the law. impeachment is essential to uphold the constitution and protect governance. No president regardless of any economical achievements is above the law or above accountability and he should be taken out of the office for abusing his power and for his hateful heart.

Cecilia, I completely agree with your argument. You made solid points to help support your argument, and they were all backed up with sufficient evidence. Your introduction hooked me for the rest of the essay, and I was engaged throughout the entire read. Great job!
